The impact of trivial moments

Slow Down, You Move Too Fast

I am by nature a busy person, always moving, always feeling the need to complete a task. You may be able to relate. The Lord is telling me in this month, the month Noah entered the ark and rested, to rest in Him. It does not mean I do nothing. There is a difference between being still and doing nothing.

Noah only had time to focus on what was in the ark with him, which was the animals and his family; but more importantly, the presence of God. This was called the “Shekinah glory” of God’s presence, which also illuminated the inside of the ark.

The “rooms” Noah was instructed to create is literally the word for “nests.”  To me, a nest is a place of rest. God invites us into that same kind of rest. It is an invitation to nest in His presence.

We can rest in His presence throughout the day because Jesus is in all things. The Passion Translation says it like this:

Rom 11:36  And because God is the source and sustainer of everything, everything finds fulfillment in him. May all praise and honor be given to him forever! Amen!

Everything finds fulfillment in Him.  Everything speaks about Him and glorifies Him.  Do we notice? Most of these things in life are what we call the trivial and small things in life, but these are the things that define us.

Don’t ignore the small things in life. Slow down! Let yourself be moved by something that asked nothing of you.  Don’t forget to notice more, not add more.

There is no such thing as a trivial moment.

Notice how a leaf seems to desperately cling to the branch in the wind even as its life of vibrant green is shifting to gold. Does it fear the shift? Or is it ready to move with the wind of His Spirit? Does it sense a new life as the old is passing away?

Did you notice the bird that landed on your front porch? Its color? Its song? Its movement? Did he have a message?

The sounds, the colors of what we call ordinary life are filled with portals into the heart of God.

Life often whispers, so we must be still and rest in order to hear and see His glory.  It's like being in the ark with the presence of God.

Life is asking us to pay attention and notice.
