Stop the Drift! Don’t Play in the Underworld

“Don’t play in the Underworld” the name of our next seminar.  When people hear the title, they often respond with alarm or even fear: “I don’t want to think about the underworld! It scares me.”

Here is the point: as a believer, there is no need to fear what lies below or lurks in the darkness. You have been translated out of the kingdom of darkness into the Kingdom of the Son of His love.

The early church and fathers had a different cosmic worldview than we do today They taught from that worldview and remained fearless even in the midst of severe persecution.  How? Because they had an understanding of the amazing and astonishing victory Jesus won at the Cross. They understood His dominion. They boasted in this and the result was miracles and power. The kind that made devils flee.

What is the cosmic worldview they believed? 

We are going to explore these ancient perspectives, including 1 Enoch. Enoch is not part of our canon of Scripture, but it is valuable in other ways.  Jesus and the disciples were familiar with this ancient tradition, and there are New Testament teachings that reflect concepts found in Enoch and other ancient writings.

Today, we have demystified and desensitized ourselves to miracles. We have reduced our understanding of the supernatural to a truncated version of reality.  Somehow, we have compartmentalized some of the Bible’s greatest mystical and supernatural events as things belonging to the ancient past or can be explained by modern science.

This is what happens when we drift off course. This is the very thing that reduces our faith to only “I hope He hears me. I hope He will heal me. I hope He will deliver me. I hope I make it to heaven”.  We have become weak and defensive.

We have drifted and therefore become vulnerable to the wiles of the devil.

Many of our commentaries reduce non-material realities to something natural, ordinary, and mundane. Man’s wisdom has reduced the miraculous to the mundane, leaving little reason to ask God to move beyond what we consider natural laws.

“Don’t Play in the Underworld” will challenge us to realign with the extraordinary, majestic, all-consuming, omnipotent God we serve—the same yesterday, today, and forever. We need to get back on course!

We have drifted to the point where demons can dupe us into fighting on their battlefield, where they have the “home-team” advantage.

The wisdom we trust today, where is its source?  Demons have wisdom as well. How can we know the difference?   What are some things that he uses on an everyday basis to get us to be dysregulated, stressed, anxious, and fearful? Is this the condition of the average Christian? Unfortunately, yes it is widespread. 

We have drifted from the wonder of Jesus and His otherworldly Good News that we are aliens, strangers, and belong to another Kingdom.  We are seated in heavenly places is not a metaphor.

We have drifted from the full potential of the Gospel; and consequently,  we have  adapted to a sub-normal Christian life that is no different than unbeliever.
