“The Purpose of Delay: Building Loyal Faith in Uncertain Times”

Are you facing a delay in your life right now? A season marked by uncertainty, questions, or silence? Waiting can feel like doing nothing—but in God's Kingdom, waiting is active, purposeful, and deeply transformative.

Delay is not denial. Delay is a test designed by God to redefine how we think about ourselves. In delay, our boastful confidence fades and our true faith is revealed. Do we trust Him only when things go our way, or do we stay loyal to His Word even in silence? Faith is our undivided loyalty to His word.

Scripture says God’s promises—His oracles—are powerful. The Hebrew word for “oracle” is mashal, which means “to rule or have dominion.” His Word has authority. If God has spoken a promise over your life, then even delay cannot override its dominion. God does not lie (Numbers 23:19). He is not like man. His Word stands.

Faith, at its core, is loyalty to what we believe. Hebrews 11:6 reminds us that faith pleases God—not quantity of belief, but quality. Loyal faith stays rooted in His promises, even when our circumstances shout the opposite.

Loyal heart-lebab shalom-a whole or complete heart; a union of two hearts.

2 Chronicles 16:9 NKJV
For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him.

Wait-qava-a term used for twisting strands together to make a rope; to entwine.

Isaiah 40:31 (NKJV)
"But those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint."

The Hebrew word for “loyal heart” (lebab shalom) means a whole or complete heart.  “Heart-lebab”carries a double “bet,” suggesting a union of two hearts—ours and God’s. Loyalty to His oracles means my heart is joined to His and I have complete peace.   I remain loyal to God’s word in the testing of delay.  Loyalty is always tested in delay.  I know He will come.

The word for “wait” in Isaiah 40:31 is qavah—a term used for twisting strands together to make a rope. This image is powerful: in seasons of waiting, we are not unraveling—we are being bound tighter to Him. His heart and ours entwined. The stronger the bond, the greater the strength.  One strand on its own is not very strong and will break.

Waiting, then, is not weakness. It is warfare. It is worship. It is trust. It is a pure act of loyalty.  God is looking for a grid of loyalty onto which He can show Himself strong. (2 Chron. 16:9)

The enemy expects you to panic in the delay. He expects you to turn to idols like Israel did with the golden calf. But what he doesn't expect is for you to become stronger while waiting—to press in, to renew your strength, and to entwine your heart with God's.

We are not just sitting there doing nothing, we are actively binding ourselves to our Lover and King.

This is what our “waiting” looks like.

Psalms 25:5 TPT
Escort me along the way; take me by the hand and teach me. For you are the God of my increasing salvation; I have wrapped my heart into yours!
