Why is God hiding?
Dec 24, 2025
If God did not hide from us, would bother to seek Him?
“You have said, ‘Seek my face.’ My heart says to You, ‘Your face, Lord, do I seek.’” Psalm 27:8
It is the same way with light, how did we know light until it was revealed to us? We were born into darkness and all we knew was relative darkness but it was still darkness. The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil thrives only in darkness.
Mat 4:16 THE PEOPLE WHO SAT IN DARKNESS HAVE SEEN A GREAT LIGHT, AND UPON THOSE WHO SAT IN THE REGION AND SHADOW OF DEATH LIGHT HAS DAWNED."
We were content until Jesus gave us a contrast. Now we hunger for His light which is His Face. He has done this so every person would long for God.
Lord, You are both transcendent and immanent, beyond all yet nearer than my very breath. You are fully divine, yet You took on our humanity. In Your majesty You seem distant, yet in Your mercy You draw close. Your distance awakens awe; Your nearness brings comfort. If You did not hide, would I ever learn to seek You? If You did not reveal Your light, would I ever want to live in it? If You did not veil Your glory, would I ever long to behold Your face? In the mystery of Your hiddenness, my heart is stirred to cry out, and in the stillness I hear You whisper, “Seek My face.”
And so, like the prophets and the faithful who came before me, I answer with the Hebrew cry of surrender: "Hineni — here I am, Lord". Here I am in my weakness, here I am in my longing, here I am in my love. Your transcendence humbles me, Your nearness restores me. You are the God who is far above, yet closer than my heartbeat. In You, heaven and earth meet, and my soul finds rest. This is the year 5786--the year of divine connection. Seek Him.
